This book is a magnificently crafted coming of age, fantasy novel.
The story primarily revolves around three young women from three different time periods and their experiences in Witchwood Hollow.
The legend begins In 1670 when Lady Clifford flees from her home and family to save her own life. She takes refuge in the forest of Witchwood Hollow, and according to Legend is never seen again by her family.
In 1850, a young woman, Albertine Slack from England received a letter from her father asking her to come to America. He wrote saying that he had secured land in Arnn NY and had found a husband for her. Albertine arrived in NY, but she never made it to her father’s home. The innkeeper tried to persuade her to wait until her father came for her, but Albertine was too anxious. Her father lived only a mile away, so she couldn’t see the harm in walking it. Albertine’s grave mistake though was when she took a short cut through Witchwood Hollow.
In 2001, after becoming an orphan, Honoria moved to Arnn NY with her aunt, uncle and brother. Honoria wanted to fit in and feel part of her new school. So when two friends dared her to enter the enchanted woods, Witchwood Hollow, Honoria accepted the challenge. She was petrified of the witch however but walked in anyway. She found that instead of feeling terrified there was a strange calmness about the area. That peaceful feeling, however, left her abruptly when she started to hear voices that told her to run. Honoria made it out that day. She became obsessed though, with Witchwood Hollow and wanted to learn everything she could about it and the witch who lived there. It was almost as if the place was beckoning and luring her back.
The story is filled with magic, mystery and enough creepiness to keep the reader glued to their seat. I found the book captivating and meticulously crafted. The escape from Witchwood Hollow has many clever and unpredictable twists and turns in it. I thoroughly enjoyed this solid 5-star read and would highly recommend it to any young adult or adult looking for some excitement and intrigue.
I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
