*WORTH The RISK* by Jamie Beck* 5-Stars*

worth-the-risk

Worth the Risk is a touching story about love, trust, honesty, and overcoming obstacles to finding happiness.

Thirty-year-old Jackson left his Connecticut business and escaped to Vermont, for a six-week respite. After being slapped with a wrongful termination lawsuit by an employee; Jackson was in need of, some serious, downtime. To salvage his business reputation, it was essential that Jackson gain control of his emotions and put his priorities in order.

Twenty-two-year-old Gabby had no choice but to grow up fast. At age thirteen her mother had left her, choosing to feed an opiate addiction rather than raise her daughter. At eighteen, the father of Gabby’s unborn child, walked out of her life, electing to be carefree, rather than shoulder responsibility.

Gabby knew that she shouldn’t get attached to the man renting the apartment above her garage. His kindness, though, was impossible to ignore. Although Gabby was aware that her heart would break when Jackson left, she was unable to stop herself from falling for him. He made her feel alive and desirable.

Jackson admitted that he was having problems with alcohol, but he didn’t see himself as a hopeless alcoholic. Fortunately, the psychiatrist Jackson had sought for treatment, also felt the same way; otherwise, he would have encouraged Jackson to attend AA. Jackson’s efforts to get honest, own up to mistakes, help others, and keep busy, was working as a healing balm to his brokenness. Jackson tried to help Gabby without becoming romantically involved. Gabby didn’t need a transit lover in her life, and Jackson didn’t need the agonizing guilt, that leaving her, would cause him.

This engaging story is superbly, written. I loved Gabby, Jackson, and Gabby’s son, Luc, right from the start. The author brings the story alive with realistic dialogue, fully developed characters, and a well thought-out plot. Love, betrayal, fear, trust and addiction are the main components in this captivating tale. It’s an emotional tearjerker, as well as a heartwarming, thoughtful story. Highly recommended.

I received this ARC  from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
