Don’t Miss This Outstanding, Heart-Wrenching Novel by Sinead Morarity.
The Good Mother Coming 7/25/17.
The Good Mother is a beautifully written poignant story, which brought me to tears, made me laugh and touched my soul.
Kate was devastated when her husband Nick left her. Being broke, homeless and betrayed, though, was not the worse of Kate’s heartaches; not even close. The news of her twelve-year-old daughter, Jess, the peacemaker of the family, being diagnosed with Leukemia was what brought Kate to her knees.
Luke, the eldest son, was crushed over his sister’s diagnosis. On top of that, though, he was beside himself with guilt. The last thing he meant to do was to bring more stress and pain into his already broken-hearted mother’s life. Bobby was seven, and angry with the world. He couldn’t understand why God would pick his family to punish, especially, his sister, Jess, the most loving one of them all. Kate was hardly functioning. She couldn’t sleep or eat and didn’t know where to put her pain. Nick, the selfish ex-husband, was feeling sorry for himself and tried to get others to feel bad for him also. He got no sympathy from me, though; none at all.
Kate had a wonderful support system. But, nothing could have prepared her for the excruciating agony of watching her daughter suffer and then being asked to do the unthinkable.
The Good Mother is a well crafted, thought-provoking novel, which takes a very controversial, heart-wrenching subject, and splits it wide open, for the reader to ponder. I don’t usually cry, but the pages in this book came alive for me. They are overflowing with raw emotion, and I couldn’t hold back. Don’t think it won’t happen to you, it will. The Good Mother is not all sadness and gloom though; it’s also very funny. I laughed and cried throughout the entire novel. I loved every page of this superbly written book. The Good Mother is a must read. Keep the tissues handy though.
Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy. I loved it!
