Don’t Miss This Unforgettable & Superbly Written Novel, by Sinead Moriarty.
The Way We Were, Coming 8/30/17. I Absolutely Loved It!
The Way We Were is a touching, heart-wrenching tale about love, grief, and making choices. I loved everything about this book. Sinead Moriarty is fast becoming a favorite author of mine.
Ben, was Alice’s everything. Alice, however, was the love of Ben’s life, but not his everything. Ben was forty-five-years-old and restless. Although he had a beautiful wife, and home, two children, and a successful career, he wanted more. That more; unfortunately, would cost him.
Ben desired adventure, and going to Africa, to perform complex surgeries and teach budding surgeons, was just the thing he thought he needed. Despite Alice’s pleadings for Ben to stay, he packed his bags, left, and boarded a plane.
When Ben, two years later, walked back into Alice’s life, he found her content, happy, and in love with another man. Alice was no longer the same woman he left behind. She was a stronger, more independent, and distant; at least to him, version of herself. Ben wanted more than anything else to be her everything, once again, but was it too late? It sure looked that way.
The Way We Were is a captivating book, superbly written with raw emotion, humor, and realistic dialogue. I adored several characters in this novel. One of my favorites was Alice. I loved her undying loyalty and strength. Another was Kevin. He’s a unique character, funny, and utterly lovable. I admired Holly, the youngest daughter. She was sincere and selfless. Jools, the eldest child, was a typical teenager, but likable just the same. Ben; however, never won me over completely. He suffered a great deal in Africa, but he still apparently, needed, even after promising loyalty to Alice, to enjoy one more moment of carnal temptation with another woman. I wanted to smack him. He did, however, finally redeem himself.
The Way We Were is a fabulous read, and a book, not to be missed. Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy!
