Sold On A Monday is a well-written, poignant, historical fiction novel, which takes place during the Depression Era, in Pennsylvania.

Ellis Reed had no idea that an increase in reporting opportunities would be rewarded him, after capturing two children for sale, on film. Lillian Palmer, a secretary for the newspaper, found Ellis’s picture, and submitted it for review. But, when the image was discovered, destroyed, the editor sent Ellis to take another. The problem was, however, that the children were no longer there. So against Ellis’s better judgment, he re-created the scene by bribing an impoverished mother into allowing her children to pose for a picture.

Ellis felt shame and guilt, for exploiting a woman’s distress, for financial gain, especially, when that deceitful action, led to devastating consequences for the mother and her children. Ellis was determined, however, to right his wrong.

The story is captivating and heartbreaking. It also has an authentic feel to it, of what, life was like, during the 1930s.

Thank you, Sourcebooks and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.
