The Piranhas by Roberto Saviano–Review-3 stars #NetGalley

The Piranhas::.jpg 850.jpgThe Piranhas Coming 9/4/18

The Piranhas takes place during the twenty-first century in Naples, Italy.

Nicholas has always been fascinated by the organized crime world. His idea of success was to be the head of an organized group. His father wanted him to go to America or England to attend an esteemed school. But, Nicolas, later known as, Maraja, was content in Naples. The gang world was his life. The only thing Nicholas hated, was reporting to someone. His goal was to have his own paranza.

The Piranhas is a distressing story about teenagers growing up in the organized crime world. The leaders of the crime families were like royalty. The boys idolized them. Witnessing brutal killings, drug deals, and generalized lawlessness was part of their life.

I had a difficult time getting through this novel. There are a lot of characters in this book. Trying to remember the characters, crime families, and Italian phrases sprinkled throughout the novel was overwhelming. The story, although interesting, is quite disturbing.

Thank you,  Farrar, Straus, and Giroux Publishing, and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

Believe Me::.:.:.jpg 850.jpg

New Dark Thriller by J. P. Delaney–Coming 7/24/18!

Believe Me, is a dark, creepy, compelling, and complex thriller.

 Claire wants to make it as a New York City actress. But, apartments in New York are expensive. So Claire accepts a position, as a decoy, for divorce lawyers. Her job is to flirt with straying husbands, and then catch them, on tape, propositioning her for a hook-up. It wasn’t the best of situations, but it enabled her to hone in on her acting skills while getting paid.

Claire gets her big chance to prove herself as an up-and-coming NYC actress, in a play. She knows that there is an element of danger with accepting this position. It could even cost Claire her life. But, Claire is not about to miss her chance to shine as in actress on stage.

What Claire is unaware of, is just how convincing, a serial killer can be. And, what the killer doesn’t realize, is the level of expertise, Claire has achieved, as a manipulator, as well as an actress. She not only plays her character, Claire becomes her character.

Believe Me is an intense, dark, psychological thriller, with twists and surprises, that I never saw coming. Although I was confused, at times, while reading this book, everything tied-up nicely and became clear in the end.

Thank you, Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

#Somebody’s Daughter by David Bell–Review–4.5 Stars

Somebody's daughter..::.jpg..850.jpgDon’t Miss David Bell’s New Compelling Thriller–Somebody’s Daughter–Coming 7/10/18!

Somebody’s Daughter is a well-written crime thriller, crafted with an intriguing plot, realistic dialogue, and interesting characters.

Nine-year-old, Felicity, has gone missing. Police are gathering evidence, following leads, and interviewing people who might have come in contact with the girl. Unfortunately, the longer that she is missing the graver her case becomes.

Michael and Angela Frazier are a happily married couple. The only wrinkle in their marriage has been their inability to have children. Although it’s not physically impossible for them, it hasn’t happened yet, and the years are beginning to add up. Michael has always had a soft spot for children. He lost his sister when she was very young, and unfortunately, he has never fully healed from it. He blames himself for her death.

Michael is flabbergasted when he opened the door to find Erica, his ex-wife, standing there; panic-stricken. She is barely holding it together. Her daughter has gone missing, and she wants Michael to help find her. When he tries, to convince, Erica, to allow the police to do their job, she informs him that Felicity is his daughter.

Michael feels as if he’s been punched. The hole in his heart from his sister’s death is still raw. Michael can’t allow another child to die if he can help it. And, what if Felicity truly is his child? How would he ever live with himself? So he exits the house with Erica, leaving behind his wife, Angela, confused and alone.

Somebody’s Daughter is a light whodunit mystery. It’s a story that will keep you intrigued, captivated and engrossed until the very end. There are no gruesome, or chilling scenes, in this novel. Although this is the first book that I have read by David Bell, it won’t be my last.

Thank you, Berkley and Edelweiss, for my advanced review copy.

Don’t Miss This Brilliant Whodunit Novel by Elin Hilderbrand- Coming 6/19/18–I loved Every Page!

The Perfect Couple is a superbly crafted, captivating, mystery.

The most expensive event of the summer on Nantucket was to be the marriage celebration between Benjamin Winbury and Celeste Otis. It was being held at the Winbury’s Nantucket beachfront home. Greer spared no cost in planning Benji and Celeste’s happy day. The only wrinkle, Greer could see, affecting her son’s wedding, was the report of a missing person, and the dead body that was floating in front of their home, the morning of the wedding.

Everyone at the Winbury home was being questioned; nerves were on edge, hearts were shattered, fear was everywhere as the intricate web of sordid, dark secrets were unearthed, one by one.

The Perfect Couple is an incredible whodunit mystery, crafted with an intriguing plot, flowing dialog and colorful characters. There wasn’t a dull page in the entire book. The characters are beautifully developed, realistic and flawed. I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that I never figured out who the true villain was. Brilliantly crafted. I loved it!

Thank you, Little, Brown & Co. Publishing and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

The Chosen Ones by Carol Wyer–Review-4.5 stars #Bookouture #NetGalley

the chosen ones copy::.jpg 850.jpgDon’t Miss Carol Wyer’s Newest Fab. Crime-Thriller-The Chosen Ones–Out Now!

The Chosen Ones is a compelling, creepy and fast-paced police procedural crime-thriller.

Murders are beginning to pile up in Colton, England, and DI Robyn Carter and her team have been working overtime to link clues together. There’s a serial killer on the loose, and Robyn’s superior is threatening to pull her off the case. She’s stepping on toes, irritating influential people, and they’re breathing down her boss’s neck. Why is her superior hampering her investigation? Could he be corrupt?

The murders were all different; each one was as brutal as the one prior: a man hanging like a scarecrow, a screwdriver through the head, and a woman run over several times. Unfortunately, these were not the only deaths; there were more. Robyn knew that she was staring at the work of a cold, methodical serial killer. And if her boss were in any way involved with these killings, then she’d have to bring him down as well.

If you enjoy police procedurals, check-out The Chosen Ones. It’s a cleverly crafted thriller, with realistic characters, an intriguing plot, natural dialogue and lots of surprises. The only thing I didn’t care for was the mild cliff-hanger at the end. It only involves a minor subplot, but still, I like my readings to end with every loose thread tied up.

Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.
