Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage–Review-4.5 Stars

Baby Teeth–Coming 7/17/18–A Fascinating and Shocking Novel.

Wow, Baby Teeth is one of the darkest, creepiest horror books that I’ve read in a long time. It was a fascinating story, in a shocking-horror-type of way. I couldn’t put the book down, and read it in one sitting.

By all outward appearances, Suzette and Alex had it all. They were financially comfortable, had a loving, passionate relationship, and a beautiful daughter.  But, appearances can be deceiving.

Seven-year-old Hanna was cunning. She knew how to get her way, whether she was at home, in school or just out with Suzette, her mother. Hanna was sweet and loving when she wanted to be. With her mother, however, Hanna was cold, calculating and manipulative. Hanna wanted her father for herself and was determined to do whatever was necessary to make that happen.

Suzette loved her daughter and wanted only the best for her. And, even though Hanna’s hostile behavior towards her, hurt, she showered Hanna with love. Suzette made mistakes along the way but sincerely tried to give Hanna a better childhood than she had for herself. Alex was oblivious to Hanna’s manipulations. He couldn’t believe that his sweet daughter was capable of the evil deeds being reported to him. Suzette’s life became a hellish power-struggle with her daughter, even dangerous, whenever her husband was not in sight.

Kudos to the author for creating such an unforgettable debut novel. Whether you like the book or not, it’s bound to stir up strong emotions. If you can handle reading about twisted minds, even in a child, then this book might be for you. I rated this book down from 5 stars to 4.5, because Hanna’s behavior to me, seemed too advanced for her age.

Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my advanced review copy.

New Dark Thriller From Dean Koontz, Coming 5/8/18!

The Crooked Staircase is a dark, riveting and intense thriller, crafted with numerous twists and surprises. I was delighted to find that even though, I hadn’t read the first two books in the series, the plot was easy to follow.

Jane Hawk and her five-year-old son, Travis, were in grave danger of being caught, by corrupt government agents. These agents were known as Techno Arcadians. They were capturing and injecting the people on their list, with a mind-altering drug, which not only took away free-will but permanently changed their brain. The Arcadian’s goal was to accomplish World Utopia, through mind-control. Former FBI agent, Jane Hawk, lost her husband, because of these evil-doers, and she was ready to have her revenge. As much as it pained Jane to leave her son with Gavin and Jessie, it was better than giving the Arcadians a chance to kidnap him. But, what if these corrupt men were to find Gavin and Jessie, and therefore, Travis, before Jane could bring them down?

Like many readers, I’m not a fan of cliff-hangers. I like to know before starting a book if the story ends in one. Be warned. This book does. All and all, though, I found The Crooked Staircase to be an entertaining, dark, creepy, and fast-paced read.

Thank you, Ballantine Publishing and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

The Girl I Used To Be by Mary Torjussen–Review-5 Stars!

the girl I used to be::.jpg 850.jpgDon’t Miss Mary Torjussen’s Newest Unputdownable Thriller!

The Girl I Used To Be –Coming 4/24/18

The Girl I Used To Be is a brilliant read, addicting, fast-paced, and unputdownable. I was hooked and transported into the story from the very first page. Once I started reading this book, I hated to have any interruptions. I was completely caught up in the story.

Gemma Brogan worked hard at her real estate business. Her husband, Joe, was a stay at home father for their three-year-old son, Rory. Usually, Gemma didn’t mind being the only one working long hours, but when she noticed that her son, sought out his father, not her, whenever he was sick, or tired; it stung. Gemma didn’t want to say anything to Joe because they had both agreed on the arrangement. Gemma was under the impression, however, that it was only going to be a temporary thing, but Joe showed no interest in ever going back to work.

When David, a distinguished and handsome man stepped into Gemma’s real estate office, Gemma couldn’t help but notice him. Not that she was interested. She wasn’t. Gemma loved Joe, even though she was irritated with his laziness and the fact that she was missing out on caring for her own son. Gemma was jealous of her husband and didn’t know what to do about it.

The evening before her conference, Gemma planned to spend her hotel night, taking a relaxing bath, reading her kindle, and getting some much-needed sleep. Instead, she visited the lounge for a bit. When Gemma ran into David, the man who had captured her attention in the office, she was pleasantly surprised. So when he suggested dinner, Gemma readily agreed. What could an innocent dinner hurt? Gemma’s dinner, however, ended up being anything but innocent. In fact, it was the beginning of a never-ending nightmare. Gemma couldn’t sleep, concentrate or eat. She was in a constant state of anxiety. Gemma was about to lose everything, and she didn’t know how to stop her world from crumbling.

I was completely engrossed in this story. What a talented author Mary Torjussen is! I loved every page. This is the second book that I have read by this author, but it won’t be my last. Highly recommended.

Thank you, Berkley Publishing and Edelweiss, for my advanced review copy. I loved it!

The Other Mother by Carol Goodman-Review-4 stars

Carol Goodman’s Newest Release-The Other Mother-Coming 3/27/18!

The Other Mother is an intense psychological thriller. It’s confusing and disturbing, but fascinating. Nothing in this book is what it appears to be. There are many twists and surprises throughout the novel. All the pieces, though, do come together in the end.

Daphne Marist and Laurel Hobbs met in a support group for women suffering from intrusive thoughts and postpartum psychosis/depression. The two women became fast friends, confiding in one another their deepest thoughts and fears. Laurel encouraged Daphne to sharpen her appearance. Daphne readily agreed and changed her hairstyle, clothes, accessories, and behavior, to match her new, more confident friend, Laurel Hobbs. Their intense friendship, however, crumbled. Did their husbands sabotage it, or did they break it themselves?

When Daphne’s life began to spin out of control, she split from her husband and took infant Chloe with her. Daphne headed for the Catskills where a job awaited her. She started her new life under the assumed name, Laurel Hobbs. It was there, however, where Daphne’s chaotic world turned into a never-ending nightmare. A world where layers of deceit and betrayals were exposed.

The Other Mother is a cleverly crafted thriller, where cunning characters come to life. A word of caution to the reader, Postpartum Psychosis/Depression, Intrusive Thoughts, suicide and Borderline Personality, are addressed in this intriguing, dark novel.

Thank you, William Morrow Publishing and Edelweiss, for my advanced review copy.
