Read between the lies.

My Review

The Wife Between Us is an intense psychological thriller with many twists.
Vanessa had just graduated from college when she met Richard; a man whom she thought was too good to be true. Richard was charismatic, handsome, and wealthy. He was also everything Vanessa thought she wanted in a man. So when Richard started to flirt with her, Vanessa quickly fell for his charms. What Vanessa didn’t know about Richard’s personality, though, was that he was also sneaky, manipulative, and controlling. Richard was sure that Vanessa, would make the perfect wife. She was fun, pretty and needed him. Their marriage and blissful life, however, would not last long. After a new lover entered Richard’s world, their shaky marriage became more than just troubled; it began to disintegrate.

There is much more than just a simple love triangle going on in this novel. Richard and Vanessa are playing devious, cunning games with one another. Betrayal is something that’s never welcomed in a marriage, but then again, neither is violence. Deception and trickery are the main components in this story. The Wife Between Us is a compelling, brilliant read.

Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

Sarah Pekkanen thumb.jpg

Bio
Sarah Pekkanen is the internationally-bestselling author of the novels THE PERFECT NEIGHBORS, THINGS YOU WON’T SAY, CATCHING AIR, THE BEST OF US, THESE GIRLS, SKIPPING A BEAT and THE OPPOSITE OF ME.

Her upcoming novel THE WIFE BETWEEN US is a twisty psychological tale co-authored by Sarah and her former editor Greer Hendricks. It will be released in January 2018.

Sarah is the mother of three boys, which explains why she wrote part of her novel at Chuck E. Cheese. Seriously. Sarah penned her first book, Miscellaneous Tales and Poems, at the age of 10. When publishers failed to jump upon this literary masterpiece (hey, all the poems rhymed!) Sarah followed up by sending them a sternly-worded letter on Raggedy Ann stationery. Sarah still has that letter, and carries it to New York every time she has meetings with her publisher, as a reminder that dreams do come true.

Layton Green’s Newest Crime Thriller is Brilliant!

Written In Blood— Release Date 11/7/17.
Don’t Miss It. I Loved it!

Synopsis

Detective Joe “Preach” Everson, a prison chaplain turned police officer, is coming home. After a decade tracking down killers in Atlanta, and with a reputation as one of the finest homicide detectives in the city, his career derailed when he suffered a mental breakdown during the investigation of a serial killer who was targeting children.

No sooner does Preach arrive at home in Creekville, North Carolina–a bohemian community near Chapel Hill–than a local bookstore owner is brutally killed, the first murder in a decade. The only officer with homicide experience, Preach is assigned to the case and makes a shocking discovery: the bookstore owner has been murdered in exactly the same manner as the pawnbroker in Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment.

With the help of Ariana Hale, a law student and bibliophile who knew the victim, Preach investigates the local writer’s community. As their questions increase, a second body is found, this time eerily resembling the crime scene in a famous Edgar Allan Poe novella. Preach and Ariana realize that their adversary is an intelligent, literate killer with a mind as devious as it is disturbed–and that one or both of them may be his next target.

My Review

Written in Blood is a meticulously crafted perfectly paced crime thriller. The author’s ability to create lifelike characters and authentic crime scenes brought this story alive for me. Once I started reading this book, I was hooked, engrossed and addicted. Written In Blood is brilliant!

Murders were adding up in Creekville, North Carolina. The killer was recreating brutal murder scenes, from books, written by Dostoevsky, Poe and Agatha Christie. But why? Creekville was just a small town where nothing ever happened; at least it was.

Joe Everson aka Preach was once a top-notch detective, but a mental breakdown in Atlanta changed all of that. Preach returned home to Creekville and was hoping to slowly ease his way back into his law enforcement career. Detective Joe Everson, however, would not get his wish. Shortly after the detective returned to his hometown, Creekville had its first murder in a decade. And, since Preach was the only detective with homicide experience, ready or not, he would have to head the investigation. This was no ordinary killer they were looking for. The only connection Preach could find, along with his friend, Ari Hale, a bibliophile, was that each murder scene was precisely recreated from a horror book.

Preach was grateful for Ari Hale’s literary expertise and although he knew that the timing was wrong for a relationship, he could feel a mutual attraction between them, growing. Their relationship, however, no matter how secret they tried to keep it, was noticed, namely by the thugs gunning for Preach. And, the closer Preach and his partner Kirby came to nailing the mastermind, behind the killings, the more dangerous, life became for them, as well as for everyone Preach and Kirby loved and cared for.

Written In Blood is a multi-layered, superbly crafted, compelling thriller. It’s a riveting twisty tale of intrigue, greed, revenge, and self-discovery; with a dash of romance, mixed in. Layton Green is a talented writer. If you haven’t discovered this author’s work yet, I would highly recommend, Written In Blood. The book is extraordinary.

Many thanks to Layton Green, Prometheus Books, and Edelweiss, for my advanced review copy. I loved it!

The Surrogate by Louise Jensen–Book Review–5-Stars

Surrogate:.jpg:850.jpg

Don’t Miss Louise Jensen’s Latest Thriller, The Surrogate, Coming 9/27/17.
It’s Gripping, Intense and Brilliant. I Loved It!

The Surrogate is an intense and cleverly crafted psychological crime thriller. This brilliant novel has so many surprising twists in it that I never saw the final one coming. And, what a twist it was!

Kat desperately wanted to be a mother, but sadly, she couldn’t become pregnant. Her supportive husband, Nick, agreed with Kat, that adoption was probably the best way for them to proceed. But after two failed foreign adoptions, the couple was emotionally spent. Everything was looking hopeless, until Kat’s estranged best-friend, Lisa, showed up and offered to be a surrogate. Kat took her friend’s offer as a positive sign and readily agreed. Nick’s lawyer and friend, Richard, however, didn’t think it was a wise decision at all and strongly counseled the couple against it. But Kat was adamant, and so the surrogacy process began. Kat started to doubt her friend’s integrity, though, after Lisa consistently made excuses as to why Kat couldn’t accompany her to the doctor. Lisa was harboring a dark secret, but then again, so was Kat, and Nick, as well as their lawyer, Richard. What would happen when these dark, ugly secrets came to light? Nothing good, that’s for sure.

The Surrogate is an engrossing and compelling novel. I read the book in one day because I couldn’t put it down. It’s intriguing, intense and completely captivating.

The Missing Girls by Carol Wyer

The Missing Girls 850:.jpg.jpg

Don’t Miss Carol Wyer’s New Exciting Crime Thriller, Coming 9/14/17!

The Missing Girls is the third compelling book, in Carol Wyer’s Detective Robyn Carter Crime Thriller Series.

The storage facility atmosphere became thick, with somber silence, when a trunk, expected to have hidden illegal drugs in it, contained instead, a decomposing body of a sixteen-year-old girl. The deceased, Carrie Smith, had been brutally murdered. When Amber Dalton, another teenage girl was found dead; DI Robyn Carter, was convinced, that it was the work of a serial killer. Her boss, however, didn’t agree with her and ordered Robyn to stay focused on her investigation of Carrie Smith’s murderer. He accused Robyn of wasting valuable resources. When a third girl was reported missing, Robyn was ready to put in for a transfer. But, her deceased fiancee’s daughter, Amelie, a girl whom she adored, kept her rooted to her current precinct. DI Robyn Carter became more focused than ever, though, when a fourth girl, one whom she was acquainted with, went missing. Robyn was determined to put the sick-serial-killer behind bars, before it was too late, for yet, another girl.

The Missing Girls is an engrossing, fast-paced novel. As difficult as it was to read about the victim’s experiences, the author’s sharp and vivid details kept me captivated and glued to my seat. This book is a gripping, police procedural crime thriller, crafted with many clever twists, that kept me guessing until the very end.
