Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage–Review-4.5 Stars

Baby Teeth–Coming 7/17/18–A Fascinating and Shocking Novel.

Wow, Baby Teeth is one of the darkest, creepiest horror books that I’ve read in a long time. It was a fascinating story, in a shocking-horror-type of way. I couldn’t put the book down, and read it in one sitting.

By all outward appearances, Suzette and Alex had it all. They were financially comfortable, had a loving, passionate relationship, and a beautiful daughter.  But, appearances can be deceiving.

Seven-year-old Hanna was cunning. She knew how to get her way, whether she was at home, in school or just out with Suzette, her mother. Hanna was sweet and loving when she wanted to be. With her mother, however, Hanna was cold, calculating and manipulative. Hanna wanted her father for herself and was determined to do whatever was necessary to make that happen.

Suzette loved her daughter and wanted only the best for her. And, even though Hanna’s hostile behavior towards her, hurt, she showered Hanna with love. Suzette made mistakes along the way but sincerely tried to give Hanna a better childhood than she had for herself. Alex was oblivious to Hanna’s manipulations. He couldn’t believe that his sweet daughter was capable of the evil deeds being reported to him. Suzette’s life became a hellish power-struggle with her daughter, even dangerous, whenever her husband was not in sight.

Kudos to the author for creating such an unforgettable debut novel. Whether you like the book or not, it’s bound to stir up strong emotions. If you can handle reading about twisted minds, even in a child, then this book might be for you. I rated this book down from 5 stars to 4.5, because Hanna’s behavior to me, seemed too advanced for her age.

Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my advanced review copy.

The Other Lady Vanishes by Amanda Quick–Review-4 stars

the other lady vanishes:.:.jpg 850.jpg

New Crime Thriller by Amanda Quick–The Other Lady Vanishes– Coming 5/8/18!

The Other Lady Vanishes is the second book in the Burning Cove Series, which takes place during the 1930s in California.

It was months before Adelaide Blade was able to escape the psychiatric hospital where her narcissistic husband had committed her to. Although Adelaide had taken precautions by relocating and changing her name, she never really felt safe. At least, not until, Jake Truett showed up, in Burning Cove, and came to her rescue. Adelaide knew that her husband would never give up searching for her. He needed to continue pilfering her inheritance. And, for that to happen, she had to be locked-up and drugged.

For health reasons, Jake Truett was taking a break from his import/export business. So his trip to Burning Cove, California, was in part for his health; but Jake’s primary goal was to find his deceased wife’s diary. Jake knew that if the diary fell into the wrong hands, and made public, her family’s reputation would greatly suffer. Meeting Adelaide in his travels was a definite bonus to his Burning Cove visit.

There are several interesting characters in this book, along with some surprises and twists. Although I didn’t find the story entirely realistic, I enjoyed it just the same. If you’re looking for a light mystery with a bit of romance, then The Other Lady Vanishes, just might be the book for you.

Thank you, Berkley Publishing and Edelweiss for my advanced review copy.

Before I Let You Go by Kelly Rimmer–Review-5 Shining Stars

Before I let you go::.jpgDon’t Miss This Incredible Story!  Before I Let You Go by Kelly Rimmer –4/3/18!

Before I let you go is an incredible story about love and sacrifice, and the inevitable, agonizing heartache that comes, when a person, you love, is addicted to drugs.

Lexie has been taking care of her sister, Annie, ever since their mother mentally checked-out. When their mother started to participate in life again, she joined a religious cult and, unfortunately, her daughters went with her. Lexie escaped the community, at the age of sixteen, but couldn’t take her sister with her.

In the cult’s religious community, girls were not allowed to stay in school after the age of fifteen. At sixteen-years-old, they began to learn the duties for being a proper housewife. They were also given a job in the community. Women soon discovered that their thoughts and opinions were best left unsaid. In the home, they had no voice at all, their husband ruled them, along with any children they had. Lexie and Annie learned after experiencing their stepfather’s painful punishments that their mother would not come to their aid. Annie, because of her rebellious nature, suffered the most. Unfortunately, by the time Annie escaped, she was emotionally broken.

At the age of eighteen, Lexie took on the full responsibility for her sister, Annie. She became Annie’s sole provider and guardian. Lexie did her best, for her sister, but Annie was difficult. She rebelled against anyone who tried to tell her what to do. Unfortunately, Annie ended up succumbing to the ultimate oppressor and crutch, heroin. Before I Let You Go is a must read. This thought-provoking book illuminates for the reader an accurate description of the addict’s cycle of pain and remorse, and the enablers bottomless pit of agonizing grief and guilt.

Drug addiction touches practically every family in some way, directly or indirectly. And, Kelly Rimmer’s written account of what a tortured addict experiences, as well as the guilt-ridden family members, is spot on.

I loved every page of this superbly written, poignant novel. Every sentence moved the story forward in this book. There are no wasted words, no boring pages, and no fluff. Before I Let You Go is a quality read. This is the first book that I have read by this talented author, but it won’t be my last.

Thank you, Harlequin- Graydon House Books and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy. I absolutely loved it!

Duke of Desire by Elizabeth Hoyt–Book Review

Duke of Desire..:850.jpg

Elizabeth Hoyt’s Newest Historical Fiction Romance! — Duke of Desire– Coming 10/17/17—

The Duke of Desire is a dark, gritty, and captivating historical fiction romance.

Raphael de Chartres, the Duke of Dyemore returned home for one purpose, and that was to infiltrate the Lords of Chaos and bring them down. His depraved, now deceased, father, had once been the head of that vile organization. When Iris Jordan, a woman Raphael had secretly desired, was kidnapped, by the Lords of Chaos, Raphael was compelled to save her. He knew of all the horrid things that Iris would have to endure before the despicable group would end her agonizing torture and put her to death. Raphael couldn’t allow that to happen. It didn’t matter that Iris tried to murder him, or that he would never enjoy a consummated marriage with her; he just needed to keep her safe.

Iris couldn’t stop her traitorous heart from falling for Raphael, the man who forced her to marry him. Raphael considered himself a hideous and detestable man. How could he not be? He had his father’s evil blood running through his veins. Iris, however, knew differently. She just had to convince Raphael of that, before he sent her away, or ended up getting himself killed.

The Duke of Desire is an engrossing adult historical fiction romance. If you like dark and gritty, then this book is for you.
