The Alabaster Hip by Maggie Fenton

The Alabaster Hip.3.99

Maggie Fenton’s Newest Release is Humorous, Captivating and Entertaining. The Alabaster Hip— Coming 6/6/17— Don’t Miss It. I Loved It!

The Alabaster Hip is a very well-written, delightful and humorous historical fiction romance.
Minerva Jones has been sacked without references for the second time in her life. And this last time was not even her fault. She was fighting off an intruder, the Viscount Marlowe, to be exact; and while struggling to do so, she was caught in a compromising position. How was that, her fault? And, to add to her supposedly naughty behavior, Minerva’s nemesis squealed to her superior, about Minerva’s Christopher Essex poetry collection. Granted the man’s poetry was a bit unconventional; blood pumping, toe curling, and even swoon-worthy. But still, it was only poetry.

While Minerva Jones was standing in a muddy ditch, screaming the filthiest swears she could think of, the Viscount Marlowe offered her, a governess job. Minerva couldn’t believe the audacity of the crazy man. But when the Viscount kept upping the salary that he was offering her, to triple what she would normally make, Minerva caved. She might despise the man for getting her sacked, but she wasn’t stupid. And besides, Minerva truly liked the Viscount’s twin girls, even if they were, little hellions.

Minerva had no idea how complicated her life was about to get. But living under the same roof as the Viscount was rattling her nerves and proving to be dangerous as well. Much to Minerva’s dismay, she was growing fond of the Viscount. Minerva needed to guard her heart; because falling for a man like him would only end badly for her.

This book is pure entertainment. It’s escapism at its finest. The characters are quirky, likable, and eccentric. I found the banter between Minerva and the Viscount to be laugh-out-loud funny and Minerva’s inner dialogue, hysterical. Maggie Fenton is a talented writer and a great storyteller. I enjoyed The Alabaster Hip so much so, that I purchased, the first two books in the series.

Thank you, Kindle Press and NetGalley for my advanced review copy. I loved it!

A Daughter’s Courage by Renita D’Silva

A Daughters Courage2.99..

Renita D’Silva’s Newest, Extraordinary and Moving Novel, A Daughter’s Courage. Coming—5/31/17!

A Daughter’s Courage is a touching and unforgettable novel. This story takes place mostly in India, during the 1920’s, but also fast-forwards to the twenty-first century.

Gowri loved school. Her goal was to become a teacher just like the woman she admired, Vandana Ma’am. But at the tender age of fourteen, Gowri’s dreams and choices were stripped from her. She was given over by her parents, to the Goddess Yellamma. Gowri would be bound to the Goddess and to the man who owned the land where the temple was built, for the rest of her life. She would spend her days worshipping the Goddess, and her nights, prostituting herself to the landlord and to any man whom the landlord deemed worthy of her. Gowri’s family cut all ties with her, except for the money they received from her services.

Lucy had disgraced herself and her family. She knew that she’d have to start over somewhere far from England. So when James Bell, a coffee plantation owner, proposed to Lucy, she accepted. She didn’t love him and hated to keep secrets from him, but James was her ticket to India and a new life. So Lucy heeded her mother’s advice and kept her ugly sin to herself. Lucy sincerely hoped, though, that James would never discover what she was hiding; she didn’t think he could ever forgive her if he found out.

There are many likable characters in this book. I loved Gowri, James and Market Boy. These three characters cared more about others than they did about themselves. The character, Lucy Bell, however, took me awhile to warm up to. She had grown up privileged and was quite spoiled and selfish. Kavya and Sue, are present day likable characters who play an important role in this book.

A Daughter’s Courage is a powerful story about love, sacrifice, and survival. After turning the last page, I sat in silence, reflecting on the extraordinary journey that I’d just taken. This emotional book will linger in your thoughts long after you’ve finished it. It is unfortunate, that although the practice of sacrificing young girls to the Goddess Yellamma, was outlawed in 1988, this terrible atrocity still takes place in today’s modern day world.

Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy. I loved it!

Secrets of the Dead by Carol Wyer

Secrets of the Dead.2.995:30

New Unputdownable Crime Thriller by Carol Wyer, Coming 5/30/17!

This is One Book that You’re Not Going to Want to Miss!

Secrets of the Dead is a Brilliantly crafted, perfectly paced crime thriller. I loved every page of this riveting novel.

DI Robyn Carter is exhausted, she hasn’t slept in days; neither has her team. There is a serial killer loose in Litchfield England, and the dead bodies are beginning to pile up. Because, of gang war killings in the area, DCI Mulholland can’t authorize more help for Robyn’s team. DI Tom Sherarer should be working with Robyn, but because she has bruised his ego, Tom is blocking Robyn’s progress instead of assisting her. But, DI Robyn Carter is not above breaking a few rules, and if thinking and working outside the box is what it takes to get the job done, then so be it.

Journalist, Amy Walters, named the serial killer, the Lichfield Leopard, and the residents of the town are petrified. Someone is feeding Amy information, but who? The killer always seems to be one step ahead of DI Carter, and the thought of more innocent lives being taken was making Robyn sick. The race to capture the scruffy, wild-eyed, crazed monster was on.

There isn’t a dull page in this book. It’s captivating and unputdownable. The tension, twists and turns, kept me flipping the pages. This is the first book that I have read by this talented author, but it won’t be my last. I love finding new favorite authors, and Carol Wyer is now one of them. I’ll eagerly await for her next book to be published. Don’t miss discovering this author for yourself. Secrets of the Dead gets 5-shining stars from me.

Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy. I loved it!

Hush Girl by Gloria Zachgo

Hush Girl

Gloria Zachgo’s Newest Captivating Release!

Hush Girl is a book about Nicki, a mother of two, whose life became unbearable because of unrelenting panic attacks and nightmares. When she finally sought professional help, the therapist suggested to Nicki, for her to start writing down whatever she could remember from her childhood. Nicki found that through her writing, repressed memories were coming back to her in bits and pieces. She just wasn’t sure if they were real or not. Nicki’s sister, Cindy, thought that Nicki was insane. Nicki began to question that same thing about herself.

The story really picks up in the latter half of the book, when Nicki’s memories start to become a present day reality. And her fears, not only her own, but her whole family’s as well. I found Hush Girl to be an enjoyable and captivating read.

Thank you, Gloria Zachgo, for my complimentary copy of Hush Girl.

Wed To A Spy by Sharon Cullen

wed to a spy

New Captivating Historical Fiction Romance Coming 5/23/17.

Wed To A Spy   Don’t Miss It!

Aimee de Verris hated to leave France but her Aunt, the powerful Catherine de Medici, had given her no choice in the matter. Her task was to spy on Mary, the Queen of Scotland. Aimee’s Aunt told her that if she spied on the Queen successfully, she could return to France and to her beloved, Pierre. Although Aimee and the Queen had known each other as children, Aimee doubted that Mary would spill Scotland’s secrets to her. She despised every moment that she spent spying, in the cold, wet climate of Scotland, until she met Simon Marcheford.

Simon Marcheford had expressed to the Queen several times, his desire to retire. But, Queen Elizabeth was not ready to give up her most valuable spy. “One more mission,” she told him. Could Simon trust her words, this time? Did he, have a choice? Simon’s last assignment, however, would utterly change his life. When he landed in Scotland, to his complete surprise, Queen Mary forced him to marry Aimee de Verris. Even though  Aimee was a beautiful woman, she was a complete stranger. She was also in love with another man. Being the good spy that Simon Marcheford was, he hid his secrets well. And, he was not above using blackmail, even to a Queen, to get what he wanted.

I thoroughly enjoyed taking a peek into the inner workings of Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth’s courts. Wed To A Spy is a captivating and well-written story. Fans of historical fiction and romance will not be disappointed.
