One Wrong Turn by Deanna Lynn Sletten

One Wrong Turn.800:

New Heartfelt Romance by Deanna Lynn Sletten, Released Today!

Jess had no intention of ever falling in love with a musician, but fall, she did. Clay and his music, became her entire world. After a while, though, Clay began to fail Jess, disappointing her repeatedly. Jess, however, loved Clay, and always seemed to find it in her heart, to forgive him.

After being in a rehabilitation hospital for alcoholism three times, Clay should have been ready to go home and start taking responsibility for his life. But, Clay didn’t think he was ready. He was afraid of disappointing his family, so he stayed away, but weeks turned into months and months into years. When Clay received the news that his wife was in a coma, Clay finally came to his senses. The devastating reality of his wife’s condition sank in. It was time for him to go home and do what he should have been doing all along, taking care of his family.

Jilly, Clay’s seven-year-old daughter, accepted him back into her life, without question, even though he’d been gone for two years. His twelve-year-old daughter, Maddie, however, was not so forgiving and gave Clay’s patience, along with his fragile sobriety, a thorough workout.

This is a poignant and emotional story that describes the pain alcoholics, and their family often suffer when the claws of addiction are in full force. Although I did not find Jess and Clay’s relationship entirely realistic, I was still utterly absorbed in their story. This is a well-written and compelling novel. Very enjoyable.

Thank you, Deanna Sletten, Lake Union Publishing, and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

*Lights in My Life* A solid 5-star Moving Memoir by Helen Drew

lights in my life

Lights in My Life is a superbly written memoir, by Helen Drew. This courageous New Zealand woman bravely tells the world her poignant story with heartbreaking honesty. Helen Drew’s life story is one of survival and resilience. It gives the reader hope though, to know that healing from such atrocities as abuse, betrayal, and rape to name a few, is possible. In this book, the reader will witness Helen’s strength as she struggles to reach the blessed place called acceptance.

Helen’s three sons are the lights in her life. As she recalls the details of her family’s agonizing tragedies; the reader will feel their heart being squeezed. Helen’s raw pain is undeniably present in the words on each page of this book.

Helen Drew’s story is an inspiration and a reminder, to never lose hope because, nothing stays the same forever. I could almost hear her saying, “And this too shall pass” throughout the book. Some of the emotional pain from Helen’s hardships will never go away, but she does reassure the reader that the sharp edges do dull over time.

I found Lights in My Life to be a compelling story, meticulously written and sprinkled with humor. By the time I reached the last page, I felt as if I had just spent a day with a beloved friend; one who I hated to say goodbye to.

Thank you, Helen, for sharing your story.

I highly recommend reading this heartfelt and moving book.
