The Vogels: On All Fronts by Jana Petken–Review–5 Stars!

The Vogels::.jpg 850.jpgDon’t Miss Jana Petken’s Newest Fascinating Historical Fiction Novel–Out Now!

The Vogels: On All Fronts is an amazing story and the second book in Jana Petken’s fascinating German Half-Blood series. This superbly-written WWII novel is as unputdownable as the first book in the series.

This story takes place on several fronts, Germany, Poland, Russia, and England. The Vogels love, and stand by each other, even though their political views and loyalties are very much divided. Dieter Vogel is German, his wife Laura is English, and their children, are German half-bloods, each having their own opinion on what is right regarding Hitler’s treatment of the Jews. All three Vogel boys take part in WWII but play different roles. Both Willie and Paul wear the German uniform, but only Willie is an SS soldier. Paul is a doctor, and, unfortunately, is forced to follow the Nazi rule regarding medical treatment for the Jews. Max, is as German as his two brothers but wants nothing, to do with Hitler, his cruelty, and his lies. Max works as a British spy.

Jana Petken brings each main character in her book to life, as well as many of the horrific war atrocities that occurred during WWII. If you have not read book one in the series, this novel may be a little confusing at first, but don’t worry, it becomes quite clear quickly, as well as unputdownable. This story ends with a set up for book three. I will definitely be reading the next novel in this series.

5 out of 5 shining stars!

#The German Half-Bloods by Jana Petken–Review-5 stars!

German Half-Bloods::.jpg 850.jpg

Don’t Miss Jana Petken’s Latest Outstanding Historical Fiction Novel!

The German Half-Bloods is a superbly written, unputdownable historical fiction novel.

The book begins in Germany, during the early days of WWII, and follows the family of Dieter and Laura Vogel. Dieter is a successful businessman, and fiercely loyal to Germany. Because Dieter married an English woman, he was the only pure blood German in his immediate family. Dieter often invited Nazis into his home for dinner, hoping that his close contact with them, would keep his half-blood children, and English wife, from the Gestapo’s watch list. I quickly became invested in this family; and loved following them into England, Paris, Poland, and Russia.

Chaos was breaking out in Germany, and the air was thick with fear. Nazis were arresting Jewish families, Jewish sympathizers, and anyone verbalizing thoughts against Hitler. Although Nazi soldiers were often in Dieter Vogel’s home, mingling with his family, Wilmot, Dieter’s youngest son was the only one interested in joining the military.

Wilmot Vogel couldn’t wait to put on his SS uniform. He was looking forward to serving Hitler. Wilmot was proud to be part of the military until he discovered the horrendous acts that he’d be forced to perform. Max, the oldest son, was constantly on the move. He was an undercover, English spy, gathering intelligence against Germany. Max’s twin, Paul, a psychiatrist, was forced to stay in Germany and work in a Nazi-run hospital. His job was to sterilize disabled, and mentally-ill patients. He also had to witness the gassing of patients deemed unworthy of life. Hannah, the Vogel’s only daughter, was in England, getting married. Although Dieter’s wife Laura despised having Nazis in her home and missing her daughter’s wedding; she stayed in Germany, to support her husband.

Jana Petken brings these characters, as well as the atrocities of war to life. The author’s research and writing talent shine brightly in this book. The German Half-Bloods, however, did end, leaving some unanswered questions in my mind. I’ll anxiously wait for the next book in the series. Jana Petken is a brilliant, gem of an author. Highly recommended.

Jana Petken’s Newest Release.

Don’t Miss It!

The Scattered Flock is a compelling novel, depicting the horrors that took place in Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. I loved the first book in this series, The Errant Flock, so I was looking forward to reading its sequel.

Rafael Perato, a distinguished military leader, was devastated when he heard that the Duke of Sagrat, his brother was dead. His legs weakened further when the list of his brother’s hideous crimes were read aloud. Although, Rafael was hurt and humiliated; the Duke was still his brother, and he was determined to bring his killer to justice. Rafael even enlisted the help of one of his prisoners, David Sanz, to do just that.

Torture, pain, and death were commonplace during the Spanish Inquisition. There were several characters, both innocent and not who had the unfortunate experience of crossing paths with De Amo, a cruel, brutal, and despicable Inquisitor. De Amo took great pleasure in inflicting pain on sinners and bringing them to redemption.

The horrors of the Spanish Inquisition came alive in this book. Jana Petken crafted her novel with rich, authentic details, realistic characters, and natural dialogue. I was captivated by this intriguing story of power, greed, and corruption from the first page until the last.

The Scattered Flock is vivid, engrossing and well-written.

*Swearing Allegiance*by Jana Petken*5-Shining Stars

Swearing Aligience

Swearing Allegiance, book one of The Carmody Saga, takes place in Dublin, Ireland in 1916, during the Irish Rebellion, and the first part of the Great War.

Jana Petken is a master storyteller and a magnificent writer. I’ve read every one of her books and have never been disappointed. They have all been five-star reads, and Swearing Allegiance is no different. Once I started reading this book, I couldn’t stop. From the very first page, I was swept up into the author’s world; A world ravaged by war, loss and betrayal.

The book follows the Carmody’s, a realistic Irish family, fractured by violence, betrayal, and injustice, but bonded together by love. The once wealthy family was jolted from their life of privilege in Ireland and forced to relocate to the poor section of London, England. Each member of the family faced their own personal crisis. Every scene in the book is crafted with sharp, authentic details. I found that the main characters were fully developed and that their dialogue was natural and realistic. The book comes alive with raw emotion right from the start, transporting the reader into the dark, violent alleys of Ireland, the bloody battlefields in France, prisoner of war camps and the streets of London, under attack by German Zeppelins. By the end of this riveting book, I was exhausted, happy and wanting more. Now, I can’t wait for book two in the series to be released.

I loved Swearing Allegiance, and highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a story, well-told.

*The Errant Flock*by Jana Petken*5 Shining Stars

The errant Flock

The Errant Flock is a superbly-written historical fiction novel that takes place in Spain during the 15th century Inquisition Era.

The people of Sagrat were paralyzed with fear. The Inquisitor, Gaspar de Amo had come to their town and was throwing in jail and torturing anyone he thought was guilty of heresy. Unbeknownst to the townspeople and the Inquisitor, the Duke of Sagrat, Luis Peráto, was corrupt and evil, and the cause of many hideous crimes that were being committed in their town.

The pacing in this multi-layered, intriguing historical fiction thriller is perfect. I’ve read four of Jana Petken’s books and have found them to be, unputdownable. The Errant Flock is no exception. Jana Petken has proven herself to be a master storyteller and an exceptional writer. Her razor sharp writing in The Errant Flock brings the historical Spanish Inquisition Era alive.

Treat yourself to a fascinating read. I guarantee that The Errant Flock will keep you in its grip from the first page until the last. Jana Petken is one of my favorite writers. Don’t miss this gem of an author. You will not be disappointed. Kudos, to Jana Petken, for crafting such a magnificent historical fiction thriller.

*Blood Moon* by Jana Petken*5-Stars

Blood moon

Blood Moon is the second book in Jana Petken’s exciting Mercy Carver series. Blood Moon takes place in Virginia during the Civil War. Mercy Carver, the protagonist, is an independent soul with a taste for danger. Although, she tries to help people and means well, her bold and risky behavior becomes worrisome, especially for two men who love her, Isaac, a Union doctor and Jacob, a married, Confederate Captain. Mercy has strong feelings about freeing slaves and often risks her life helping them. On one such occasion, Mercy is severely injured and is brought to a Union fort and cared for by Isaac. When Mercy leaves the fort, she risks being captured. However, when she finally finds the man she’s been searching for, Jacob, the Confederate Captain, she is met with an unwelcoming surprise.

There are many twists and turns in this compelling historical fiction novel. You may find yourself becoming upset with the highly spirited woman, Mercy Carver.

Blood Moon is a fascinating tale, meticulously plotted and superbly written. Jana Petken’s writing flows easily, and captured my attention from the very beginning. I highly recommend this emotionally charged, and entertaining read.
