Abby was tired of being taken advantage of. Her siblings were squabbling once again, over where she would live, and who needed her help, the most. It would have been nice if they had considered Abby’s feelings in the matter, but they didn’t. So Abby knew it was time for a change. And, her family was not happy about it.

Abby was twenty-nine years old and decided that it was time for her to take control over her life. She applied for a governess position at the Duke of Rothwell’s residence. Abby had once known the Duke when he was fifteen years of age. Before he left for London, Max had pledged his love, promised to write, and when he was of age, return home to marry Abby. Even though Max broke Abby’s heart, she never stopped loving him. Max never wrote to Abby or returned home, as he promised. In fact, Max hadn’t been back to the Rothwell residence for fifteen years.

Abby was shocked to not only find the Duke at home but showering a beautiful woman with inappropriate attention. Just as Abby expected, he was not pleased to see her. Max gave Abby one week, to finish her employment in his home, working as his sister’s governess. Although being dismissed by Max, was humiliating and stung, Abby was glad to finally, put an end to her romantic fantasies regarding him. That was, however, until Max kissed her. Although Abby was anxious in Max’s home, she never expected to be in mortal danger.

The Duke I Once Knew is a well-written historical fiction romance. And, even though I found the book predictable, it was still an entertaining and enjoyable read.

Don’t Miss Olivia Drake’s Fabulous New Historical Fiction, Filled With Love, Betrayal and Intrigue.

The Scandalous Flirt, Coming 10/31/17

The Scandalous Flirt is an enchanting and captivating historical fiction romance.

Miss Aurora Paxton, aka, Rory, was banished from London, and polite society, after being found in a compromising position with Stephano, an Italian Ambassador. Stephano had no intention of marrying Rory; because the Ambassador was already married. Rory, now a ruined woman, was sent to the country to live with her Aunt Bernice. Although, Rory loved her Aunt, and Norfolk’s country fresh air, she missed her former life as a Lady. She longed for London, its balls, theaters, and shops.

Years later, a highly respected woman from London’s polite society, Lady Milford, came to visit Rory, with a request. Apparently, Rory’s stepmother, Kitty, was being blackmailed and needed Rory’s help. Rory didn’t want to assist the woman, who had abandoned her, eight years ago, but Rory traveled to London anyway; wearing a pair of borrowed, jeweled slippers from Lady Milford.

Letters stolen from Kitty’s home were being used to blackmail her. The scoundrel knew, that if Kitty’s private letters were to become public, the scandal would ruin her, and affect her daughter’s upcoming marriage. Kitty was sure that the conniving evil-doer was the Marquess of Dashell, Lucas Vale. To have better access to the nobleman’s home, Kitty asked Rory to take a position as the Marquess’s disabled mother’s companion.

Never in Rory’s wildest dreams did she ever think that she’d one day be partnered with the Marquess to solve a mystery. But, there, Rory was, too close to the handsome nobleman, for her own good. She tried her best, to guard against falling for him, because a Marquess, would never be interested in a ruined, penniless woman. But, little did Rory know, that Lucas Vale, had always had a soft spot for her.

This book has it all, romance, love, betrayal and intrigue. The Scandalous Flirt is well-written, compelling, and delightfully entertaining. I loved it. This is the first book that I have read by Olivia Drake, but it won’t be my last.

Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.
