*Joshua’s Island* by Patrick Hodges*5-Stars

Joshua's Island

Joshua’s Island is a well-written and moving story about a thirteen-year-old boy, who was ostracized, and bullied in school for three years. Joshua spent his days by himself, until the newest popular girl in school, Eve, was assigned to him, as his lab partner. Eve was devastated to know that she would be sitting next to the school’s outcast for an entire year. She did her best to let Joshua know just how unhappy she was about this arrangement; until she needed his help to pass the class. And then the unthinkable happened. She found herself not only liking Joshua but falling in love with him. Eve was beginning to realize that being part of the cool crowd wasn’t so cool at all. She was also terribly remorseful, about how she treated her non-cool best-friends.

Although Joshua’s Island is a young-adult read, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. The main characters in the story are realistic and relatable, and their emotions raw and moving. This is a quality book that carries an important message. I highly recommend reading this superbly-written and touching novel.
